We opened a window for registration in June and it has closed. Since no one is in the office, we cannot assist you at this time. However, we will be back in early August. At that time, we may open a new window or you can come to the office. If we open a new window for registration, we will notify you using e-mail. If you do not have a valid e-mail address with us, you will need to come to the office to register.
First, welcome to Carterville! You will need to come to our school before the first day of school to register your student. It is highly advisable not to wait until a day or two before the start of school to come visit us. New student registration will begin August 6, 2012. The first day of school is August 15, 2012. There are papers to complete, school records to be transferred, schedules to make, bus transportation to arrange, etc. and waiting until the last minute will add unwanted stress. Please be sure to read the FAQ titled “What do I need in the form of documentation to enroll a new student?” “What are the office hours for CIS this summer?”” What is the first day of student attendance?”
If your student was home schooled all year or did not complete the year at a public / private school then you will need to come to the office. We will need to register your student, plus your student will need to take an assessment test. We administer a test to help us determine what grade level your student needs. This is a test that takes a couple of hours and is done with our guidance counselor. This all requires making appointments. Please see us in the office in early August so we can schedule this appointment.
Transfer letter from last school attended, Birth Certificate, proof of residency (tax bill only), school physical and dental exam for 6th grade only (if new student is out of state he or she will need a physical regardless of grade level).
If you are enrolling a new student, you will pay your fees when you register him or her at our office. If your student is already enrolled in our school system from last year, please wait as we try to use Skyward for possible on-line paying of fees. Of course, you can come into the office as well.
Every student is required to pay a book fee for the use of textbooks at the school. The current fee is $35 for grades 5-6. You may be exempt from the fee if you qualify for free or reduced lunches. You MUST complete a book waiver form.
If your student is in 7th/8th grade, he or she will be required to purchase a PE shirt. The cost of this uniform is $5. Therefore, 7-8 fees are $40. All CIS junior high students are required to change into a PE shirt and shorts for PE.
We have a supply list for each grade level (5, 6, 7, 8). Please visit our main website (www.cartervillelions.com/intersch/index.html) and click on the link titled School Supplies and choose the appropriate grade level.
Our office is open from 8-3:30 Monday-Friday. The last day the office will be open in June is June 5th. The first day we open for the 2012-13 school year is August 1st, 2012. The first day of school is August 15, 2012.
You can pay your bill on-line using Skyward. Lunch money can be sent with your student and he or she will turn it in to his or her homeroom teacher. If you prefer, you can mail lunch payments to the office at:
Carterville Intermediate School
Attn: Nancy Adams
300 School Street
Carterville IL 62918
OR you can drop it off personally in the office. The price for breakfast is $.90 and lunch is $1.50.
Our district has a transportation director and his name is Michael Bradford. You can reach him at (618) 985-5727 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our fall sports include baseball, softball and cross country. These are open to all students in grades 6-8. There will be a registration for try-outs on July 30th from 9-10:30 a.m. in the foyer area outside the main office. If your student intends on trying out, please attend this registration and bring your documentation. All students need a physical less than 1 year old along with proof of medical insurance. We can make copies in the office.
Try-outs for softball and baseball will be July 31st and August 1st at Tri-C fields (located next to Tri-C Elementary School and Football Stadium) from 9-11 a.m. Cross country try-outs will be announced after school starts.
*For additional softball information, please check out www.cissoftball.pbworks.com
All students must have a physical that is less than one year old. They must also have proof of medical insurance.
The first attendance day for students is on Wednesday, August, 15th. This is a general orientation day that allows students to get acclimated to the school. Busses will run on this day.
Junior high students will receive their schedules on the first day of school (Wednesday, August 15th). We will have tables set up in the gymnasium where students will receive their schedule.
The first day of school, August 15th, students will be informed of their teacher(s) for the year in the gym. The teachers will come down to the gym and escort them to class.
Our school day starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m.
If you only have a student in grades 5 or 6, we recommend using the James Street Park, which is located North of CIS. The 5/6 students exit the doors near the park and it is a short walk. It also keeps you from the traffic in front of the school.
If you only have a student in grades 7 or 8, we recommend using the Methodist Church lot or the lot in front of the main office.
If you have a student in 5 and 7 or 6 and 8, we recommend you pick one of the two above locations and have both students meet you there.
DO NOT use School Street to pull right up to the school. Our busses use this route and it presents a hazard.

The busses use School Street and pull right up to the school for drop off. DO NOT follow this route. It is a safety hazard and interferes with our busses. Drive down School Street and turn right (north) and into our lot or turn left (south) and into the Methodist Church lot.

We have a lot located right outside the main office. We generally keep the first row open for visitors but you can park anywhere in that lot or you can use the Methodist Church lot.

Students can eat breakfast at school if they choose. All 7/8 students sit in the south bleachers in the gym until dismissal. Students in grades 5/6 take turns playing outside if the weather permits. Grade 5 goes outside on odd days and grade 6 goes out on even days.Back to top
